We will be paying tribute to this extraordinary man on 1 May 2026 at 5pm in Place Schneider, in front of the stele dedicated to his struggle: L'Enclume by Joël Nottaris.
Jean-Baptiste Dumay started out as a metalworker at Schneider, before becoming mayor of Le Creusot. Involved in the Creusot Commune in 1871, he was sentenced to forced labour and forced into exile in Switzerland. On his return to France, he founded the Fédération ouvrière de Saône-et-Loire, and was then elected deputy for Paris, bringing the voice of the world of work to the Assembly.
That's why we thought it essential to revive his memory on 1 May, Workers' Day.
To mark the occasion, we're joining forces with the Montceau collective 'La mère en gueule' to perform the songs of Jean-Baptiste Clément, the voice of the Commune of 1871, as well as other songs of struggle and social hope.
