Perched on a "panoramic promontory" on a gentle hill overlooking the beautiful surrounding countryside, on the site of a Gallo-Roman fortress followed by a Benedictine priory from the 6th century (as evidenced by a fabulous treasure known as "of Gourdon", discovered in 1845 by a young shepherdess in a field near the gîte, now partly kept in Paris at the museum of the National Library of France), being among the oldest villages in the department of Saône-et-Loire, Gourdon enjoys a magnificent preserved landscape setting (protected in ZNIEFF and various "Natura 2000 Zones" for its rich flora & fauna), combining agriculture and the great outdoors between hedgerows, numerous large lakes & ponds (several of which are equipped for swimming & water sports) and beautiful wild forests, not far from the first vineyards of the Mâconnais (first vines nestled about fifteen kilometers away). A very comfortable and spacious cottage. The large living room features a beautiful cathedral ceiling, enhanced by an authentic and majestic fireplace from an 18th-century château. The grounds are meticulously landscaped with lawns, greenery, and trees (cherry, apple, and mirabelle plum trees... / fruit picking is possible during your stay). Enjoying a superb, unobstructed view of the bucolic rolling countryside around Montceau-les-Mines, with the famous city of Le Creusot visible in the background (a city with a prestigious industrial past, home of the Schneider dynasty).
